Interesting thought… I just rewatched Teen Wolf this morning for the third time, and something finally dawned on to me that I totally missed in the initial viewing last night. Namely, I finally realized EXACTLY why Derek slashed Peter’s throat last year instead of letting Scott do so like he wanted to. He knew about the Alpha pack. KNEW they are coming. And in light of that fact his decision to take on the role of Alpha was an act of ultimate self sacrifice…
Because he knows about this pack, and is more than a little afraid of it. He knows that they are going to want to either recruit him, or more likely, try and kill him in order to take his power from him.
His decision to kill Peter and take the Alpha role has always been about protecting SCOTT from that.
This has never been about keeping ANYONE subjugate or gaining personal power for himself. (Though it has been about trying to build some sort of web of protection not just for himself but for all of them.) Its been about taking on the burden of leadership and all the inherrent risk so Scott doesn’t have to. Because Scott didn’t CHOOSE his path. Scott was the one nonvolunteer in all of this.
Derek KNEW, knew EXACTLY how risky being the Alpha of this pack was going to be, and he slashed Peter’s throat so the trouble to come would fall not ultimately on Scott’s back, but on HIS.
“Maybe I’m trying to protect you.” THE TRUTH.
He took a role he more than likely DIDN’T want, not because it was easy, but because it was right. And now he’s virtually alone to reap the consequences.
So what if Stiles gets hurt
And Isaac and Scott kinda look at each other and ask
“It works on dogs, does it work on humans?”
And the other answers
“It’s worth a try.”
So they work their pain relieving powers on Stiles and Derek realizes what they are doing and joins in. And then Erica and Boyd are all
“Hey wait, how do I do that?”
And then they all join in to take Stiles’ pain away
And it’s just long enough to get him through it
and to the hospital.
It’s enough just to save his life.
that ties in so well with the ‘going through agony’ thing too
because stiles is going through the pain
he’s drowning
but the pack is his oxygen
giving him life
This show is like, someone’s tickling you. And it’s fun and cute and you’re like haha no stop haha.
AND THEN THEY START STABBING YOU.
part of me feels bad for the betas and then there’s another part that wants to scream THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T LISTEN TO YOUR SAD ALPHA
Also can we please talk about how all this time Stiles has felt like every single day is a panic attack?
He’s lived this entire season with that tension in his chest. With that shortness of breath, with that utter fear of tipping over the edge and spiraling out of control. With the weight of the world on his shoulders and he’s trying so desperately to keep his feet underneath him, to keep pushing forward, because people are depending on him.
That’s every single day for Stiles.
He’s breaking.
And the people around him don’t have any idea.
i think it says something about lydia
and how peter sees her
when he threatens her with the violent deaths of her peers, if she doesn’t go along with his plans
they’re all random people
no one that we recognise
like, why didn’t peter threaten lydia with the violent death of her friends. or her family. or herself.
i know, i know, the death of anyone is tragic, but when it’s someone you know, are intimate with, it hits you that little bit harder.
peter could have “motivated” her even further if he showed allison or jackson drenched in blood, he’s not above that kind of blackmail
so why didn’t he
maybe because peter knows that lydia understands how dangerous he is and how he could absolutely decimate everyone in the town if he wanted so he only has to show a small snippet of what could happen if it doesn’t go according to his plan
or maybe she’s just so mentally fragile that peter didn’t need to push that far
